The USAID "Economic Support of Ukraine" project will help to conduct an examination of the project for the construction of a new water pipeline and will provide the Agency with technical and expert support in the construction and modernization of checkpoints across the state border.

USAID will support The State Agency for Reconstruction projects on the infrastructure reconstruction and development

The parties agreed on cooperation in two strategic directions – the construction of a water pipeline to four Ukrainian regions in the south of the country and the construction of priority checkpoints on the border with EU countries and Moldova. The intentions of the parties were recorded in the memorandum.

An important direction of the partnership will be the development of export infrastructure, in particular, the modernization of border crossing points.

According to the agreements, the American partners will help the Reconstruction Agency with the production of tender documents for the construction, reconstruction or major repair of checkpoints.

According to the signed Memorandum, the USAID Project will also facilitate and provide support to the Agency in attracting additional funding, including from international financial organizations, for the implementation of infrastructure projects and the development of project management capacity.

In February 2023, a new automobile checkpoint was opened on the border with Romania within the Agency's program. The point can pass up to 300 vehicles per day. Of the cargo vehicles, only empty cars and tankers pass through the point so far. When the appropriate infrastructure is created, the crossing will be open to other freight traffic.

In addition, an electronic queue for crossing the border was launched at 16 checkpoints with the EU and Moldova, in particular for truck drivers. For example, this applies to the Rava-Ruska, Krakowiec, Sheghini, Uzhhorod, Porubne, Tysa (Chop) – Zahon and Reni checkpoints.

The second part of the memorandum relates to the construction of the water pipeline for the residents of Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions. The USAID project will conduct an examination of the construction project of a new water main, the implementation of which is the responsibility of the Reconstruction Agency. In the conditions of a critical drop in the water level in the Kakhovsky reservoir due to the Russians undermining the dam, the construction of a water pipeline is vital for the south of Ukraine.
