The national railway carrier "Ukrainian Railways" has registered the railway operator "Ukrainian Railway Cargo Poland" to operate transportation between Ukraine and European countries, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Ukrzaliznytsia registered a railway operator to work on the European market

According to Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov, this initiative is aimed at improving logistics with the EU and supporting the Ukrainian economy.

The creation of a European operator will improve the management of cargo transportation in the European direction. Also the border infrastructure will be modernized, increasing its throughput, the ministry notes.

According to the plan, Ukrainian Railways Cargo Poland at the first stage of its work will be engaged in providing comprehensive cargo transportation services; coordinating work with European operators, cargo owners, border crossings; and controlling the rolling stock of the company abroad.

The long-term strategy of the international division is at the final stage of development and will be approved by the supervisory board of Ukrzaliznytsia in the near future.

“The main principle of the work of our international division will be close ties with foreign partners, transparency and competition for the sake of a worthy representation of Ukrzaliznytsia on the international arena," Yevhen Lyashchenko, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, added.

"Ukrzaliznytsia" in June 2023 increased the volume of cargo transportation by 32% compared to the same period in 2022 — to 12.4 million tons, compared to May, this indicator increased by 8%.

Ukraine produces a wide range of agricultural products that are in demand in the world, in particular in Europe. This applies not only to cereals, but also to dairy and meat products, honey, oil, nuts, etc.

Most Ukrainian grain was transported to other countries by ships, especially grain. But the war made its adjustments, as Russia occupied ports. Therefore, Ukrainian agricultural exports are forced to look for new logistics routes to consumers, by railway in particular.
